German Ph.D. Program
For the Ph.D., candidates select plans of study based on their special interest and scholarly focus. At least eight courses beyond the MA are required, after which candidates take exams in their areas of interest, and then write and defend the dissertation.
Since we attempt to be as flexible as possible in arranging a plan of study with each candidate, it is difficult to generalize about what courses may comprise a plan of study.
