German Outreach

The German Program at UConn regularly engages in outreach across the state of Connecticut and beyond. The Program has ties to many High School German programs, thanks to German Days for High School students (a full day program held on the Storrs campus) and to German Teacher Days where faculty and teachers exchange ideas about teaching German language and cultures, study abroad, and professional development. For a list of German programs in the state, please visit the site of the Connecticut chapter of AATG (American Association of Teachers of German), www.ctaatg.uconn.edu.

The German faculty maintains strong ties with the Goethe Institutes in Boston and New York and with the German Consulate General in Boston. Every semester, authors, scholars, and general speakers from these institutions visit the campus to give talks and engage with students interested in German and European cultures.

Through the Eurotech program, strong ties also exist with German companies in Connecticut, and many students in the program embark on internships at these companies. Sometimes, internships lead to work experiences abroad since Connecticut's sister state in Germany is Baden-Württemberg.
